Welcome to! My column this week takes on the infrastructure hobgoblin — and whether all those dire multi-trillion dollar warnings we keep getting from the American Society of Civil Engineers need to be taken at face value. Bottom line — we (including journalists like me) should be skeptical. I quote a civil engineer who has double-checked some of ASCE’s figures and shown some suspiciously self-serving. But no matter what: keeping up to date on infrastructure is a huge problem for our states and regions, and the idea of a national infrastructure bank does deserve serious consideration. … For a guest Citiwire piece, Dave Cieslewicz’s focuses on ways cities (especially in hard times) can imaginatively boost their fortunes by trying self-generated economic ventures.
