Here in Charlotte, it’s been cloudy, damp and dark for days, so it was particularly cheering to read Neal Peirce’s description of how Philadelphia has lit up its downtown with colorful, dancing LED lights… Not so cheering, alas, is Roberta Brandes Gratz’ look at the ways hurricanes Katrina and Sandy – both of which hit large metro areas with ‘New’ in their names – are not, at heart, all that comparable.
