Welcome to Citiwire.net! Our Citistates Group held a gathering of regional specialists last week at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund’s Pocantico Conference Center in Tarrytown, New York. The initial theme: to examine States and Regions — their roles and relationships to promote a sustainable future. Our outcome: an exciting array of ideas to sharpen the regions’ capacity to compete in today’s global economy. Participants will be relating their individual ‘takes’ in Citiwire articles over the next weeks, starting with a lighthearted story of travel and dialogue from Kate Foster. … My column this week, on a separate track, contrasts the destructive anti-immigrant rhetoric in the GOP presidential debates to wiser heads’ focus on the massive contribution of immigrants to our national life and future hopes.
